Day out on the town (Part 3)

Last stop? The Academy of Science.
I never knew science could be so inspiring! The Academy of Science holds an Adult's NightLife, 21+, every Thursday and for something that happens every week, it was pretty packed! Including profound DJ's and some good snacks, NightLife offers so many things such as a rain forest, moon viewing room, fish tanks, and presentations. Sometimes, if the sky is clear enough, you'll get to go on the roof to watch the stars through telescopes. You defintely need to go soon! (And all April is "Extreme NightLife", celebrating mammals!)
Go to their website here.

Some photos of butterflies, birds, etc. from the rain forest.

Some big cats, including a serval, leopard, cheetah, and others. Watch the video of the high jumping serval below.

Help out the Wild Cat Education and Conservation Fund that held this event, view their website here.

Day out on the town (Part 2)

Destination two? The Ferry Building. Built in 1898, it was the absolute focal point of bay area boating transportation. If you were going anywhere in or out of the bay by water, you went here. The bell tower was meant to welcome visitors into the bay. And it welcomed us as we went into the building, which has now transformed into office spaces and an amazing retail area. I like to believe that it's just a permanent indoor farmer's market. My boyfriend and I went on a Thursday, which just so happens to be one of the days when the farmer's market and arts & crafts faire occurs out front of the building. We enjoyed ice cream, cheese, tea, and coffee, just not all together.

And look at just a few of the photos we took while at the Ferry Building.

Alex wearing a hand-crocheted knit cap outside at the arts & crafts/farmer's market area. What a looker!

Mushrooms and some employees at the Far West Fungi shop. The shop has tons of beautiful mushrooms and the truffle salt is completely amazing. View their website here.

Imperial Tea Court. Amazing Jasmine Oolong tea. First time I had ever drank out of that kind of cup.

Blue Bottle Coffee Company has some great caffeinated drinks.

I highly suggest going to the Ferry Building in the near future.

Day out on the town (Part 1)

This past weekend, I went to so many places in so many time. First on the list? Westerfield Mansion.
View their wiki page here.
My mother happens to know the owner of the house and I got to take a tour of the entire 28-room structure. Among the sites I saw were many stuffed animals, a bear with a tutu, and some amazing artwork. I was in complete awe of how much history lay in this house. If you ever get the chance to go, PLEASE do it. Here are a few of my favorite pictures I took.

Outside of the house. Currently has scaffolding around the outer edges because they're getting a new paint job.

Some pictures around the house.

This specific piece of screen-printed art in one of the rooms caught my eye. Not just because it has Audrey Hepburn, but because it looked so worn down.

Some pics of the "hippie room". Most of the memorabilia is from eBay, or was left over at the house from when the house was the first official hippie den/student commune in the 1960's.

Bear in a tutu.

Scratches on the wall from when the original owners owned a baby tiger.

And finally, the (now) owner of the house and I.
